Mid-day meals and books are provided free of cost in these madrasas. As per the government, education for students of Classes 1 to 8 is free under the Right to Education Act. And since other essential items are also given to the students, the scholarship for madrasa students has been stopped.

The government noted that this was why only students of Classes 9 and 10 would be given scholarships and so, only their applications should be forwarded.

What is Madrasa?

Madrasa is the Arabic word for any type of educational institution, secular or religious (of any religion), whether for elementary instruction or higher learning. The word is variously transliterated Madrasah arifah, medresa, madrassa, madraza, medrese, etc. In countries outside the Arab world, the word usually refers to a specific type of religious school or college for the study of the religion of Islam, though this may not be the only subject studied.
